Casey and Scout Solve the Case of the Bun Intended
Casey and Scout Solve the Case of the Bun Intended
Some food crimes are messy. Some are mysterious. And some are so full of ketchup, mustard, and suspicious snack behavior that Casey and Scout have no choice but to open a brand-new case file.
This time, the scene of the crime was a perfectly normal cookout. Or at least, it looked that way at first.
The Crime Scene
Casey arrived to find a shocked hot dog bun sitting right in the middle of the scene. Its eyes were wide, its face was frozen in panic, and there were condiment splatters everywhere. Mustard squiggles. Ketchup marks. Tiny evidence markers. The whole thing looked like a backyard BBQ gone terribly wrong.
And then there was the sausage.
Instead of staying safely tucked inside the bun, the hot dog sausage was rolling away with tiny worried eyes, as if it had seen something it did not want to talk about.
Scout sniffed the ground. Casey studied the clues. One thing was clear. This was no ordinary picnic accident.
The Main Suspects
Casey made a quick list of everyone who might have been involved.
- The bun, who looked far too surprised to be completely innocent.
- The runaway sausage, who seemed very eager to leave the scene.
- The mustard, which had clearly been flung with dramatic flair.
- The ketchup, which was splattered in a suspicious pattern.
- The grill master, who claimed to know nothing.
Scout was not convinced by the grill master’s story. He kept circling back to the sausage trail, nose low, tail alert, fully committed to solving the snack mystery.
The Clues
The first clue was the expression on the bun’s face. That was not the look of a bun that had simply dropped its dinner. That was the look of a bun that had been caught in a very awkward food crime.
The second clue was the direction of the sausage. It was not just rolling away. It was escaping.
The third clue was the condiment evidence. Mustard and ketchup had landed in several spots around the scene, which told Casey there had been movement, panic, and possibly a very dramatic snack struggle.
Scout gave one sharp bark. That was his way of saying, “I found something.”
How Casey and Scout Solved It
Casey followed Scout over to a small smear of mustard near the edge of the scene. Right beside it was a tiny trail leading away from the bun. The sausage had not been stolen. It had made a run for it.
After reviewing the evidence, Casey came to the only possible conclusion. The bun had intended to hold the hot dog in place, but the sausage had other plans.
It was not an accident.
It was bun intended.

Case Closed
Casey filed the report. Scout accepted a treat for his hard work. The bun remained shaken, the sausage refused to comment, and the condiments were still under review.
